A Funny Stroller Story

We called it a vacation, but it was more like a fact finding mission.  My wife and her friend, Kelly, were both in the middle stages of their first pregnancy.  Two couples, two pregnancies, and zero clue as to what one is supposed to do with a baby.  So we invited two other couples and their small children to go camping one weekend so we could all learn something about baby-rearing.

What an education it was!  Diaper changing 101 was particularly traumatic for me, but I did like the sessions on setting up the pack-n-play and when to order out to give mom a break.  All in all, it was a fun and informative weekend that served us well through the years.

On the last day of the trip, we rented a boat and took a little cruise up the Withalacoochie River.  Zigging and zagging through the narrower passageways proved especially popular with the guys.  We took turns piloting the boat, each trying to outdo the last in terms of finding the least navigable passages to, well, navigate.

As we headed back to the dock, Tera, mother of little Janie, sat in the front of the boat and began the multi-step process of folding their elaborate stroller.  I don’t know what it was, but something about the whole stroller-folding process entranced everyone on the boat.  Tera diligently pressed tabs, pulled covers, and slid bars on the baby contraption.  All conversation stopped.  We just watched until the sizeable stroller had collapsed down into an umbrella-sized sheath.

Just as the last of the stroller disappeared into its nylon cover, Derek, the other dad-to- be, yelled out (and this is an exact quote) “Yarrabaaaaaaa!”  Our odd stroller-induced reverie broken, we all looked up as the boat careened out of the deep and clear center of the river and into the shallow, reed-filled shoal.  Our current skipper jerked the wheel and cut the throttle, leaving us caught sideways in a murky, overgrown thicket near the shoreline.

It took thirty minutes to push the boat out and clear the seaweed from propeller.  Wet, sunburned, and late, we sheepishly returned the boat to the marina.  Mercifully, the propeller wasn’t bent, so we got out none the worse for our little adventure.  The next week, I bought the biggest and most cumbersome stroller on the market.  There is one button to push and it folds in half.  It weighs a ton and even when folded it takes up the 75% of the trunk, but at least there is no risk of stroller-hypnosis.

Baby Stroller Tips And Tricks

Searching for the right baby stroller can prove to be a frustrating experience for new parents. After all, there are so many strollers to choose from, everything from baby jogging strollers to cheap baby strollers to heavy-duty high-end models.

What are new parents to do? They can find the right baby stroller by doing some shopping before their new arrival is born. This will give parents the chance to check out the many varieties of both cheap baby strollers and more costly models available to them. Such as the English style baby prams.

Parents can start their shopping by exploring the many manufacturers out there. For instance, Baby Trend Strollers and Graco baby strollers are both considered quality manufacturers. Peg Perego and Maclaren, too, have earned reputations for high-end, safe baby strollers.

Parents should next explore the many stroller varieties available to them. Some prefer traditional walking baby strollers. But many athletic parents, hoping to stay fit even after baby arrives, are going instead with baby jogger strollers. Baby Trend jogger strollers are considered quality products in this style.

Parents might also consider purchasing an umbrella stroller as a backup. Some of the larger strollers on the market are a bit cumbersome to take on long car trips. Umbrella strollers are usually cheap baby strollers, and are easy to squeeze into even a crowded car.

Those parents who prefer virtual shopping to the real thing, will be glad to know that they can find a wide variety of baby strollers online. In fact, parents might be surprised by just how many online retailers are eager to sell them their latest strollers.

Selecting the right baby stroller doesn’t have to be a chore. With just a little advance shopping, and maybe some hunting on the Internet, parents can find the right stroller for their lifestyles long before their new baby arrives.
